Natural dam found under earth in chennai

A natural dam of 80 kilometer length from mouth of the kosasthalaiyar river in  Minjur to kaveripakkam was found under the earth in thiruvallur district. It was found that if the dam like structure is filled with purified waste water in the system, the three districts including chennai, the need for drinking water and farming will be generous. In tamilnadu last year, the southwest monsoon and northeast monsoon were less than the normal, and water in the lakes and ponds are decreased.

When compared to the last year april, this year april the underground water level decreased in thiruvallur, thiruchi, salem, virudhunagar and 14 other districts, said water resource department.Due to global warming the rainfall is decreasing yearly. So rain water is also need to be saved.During rainfall the rain water must be saved in dams. The dykes must be built in the water savable regions.

The capacity of the lakes must be increased says hydraulic technicians.Even the water is saved in the ponds and lakes or dams, this water can not be used for long time.the water must be used or else it will evaporate. In the mouth of the kosasthalaiyar, this dam is 40 feet down from the sea level. From the sea level till 40 feet there is a layer of clay, under the layer of clay there is a layer of sand and again there is a layer of clay and then stones.Since there is layer of clay above and below this dam, there is no possibilities for evaporation of the water and no suction of water by earth.

By storing the water in this dam the water can be supplied to farmers and for drinking purpose through long depth wells.By doing this the water problems of three districts can be solved, said hydraulic technicians.
